To achieve this, we must take deliberate steps to improve the quality and relevance of engineering education across our universities. There is a pressing need to reform our engineering curriculum to align with modern standards and global best practices. By doing so, we can equip our engineers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to take full ownership of our infrastructural development. Equally important is the need to empower young professional engineers, who represent the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and builders. We must create opportunities for mentorship, hands-on training, professional development, and inclusion in major national projects. These young minds bring fresh perspectives and bold ideas that are essential to advancing technology and sustainable development in our region. We must also be intentional about bridging the gender gap in engineering. The underrepresentation of women in this field is a missed opportunity for our region. By encouraging and supporting more women to pursue and thrive in engineering careers, we enrich the profession with diversity, creativity, and broader perspectives. This includes creating inclusive policies, support networks, and scholarship opportunities that help remove barriers and foster equal participation. Sustainable progress depends on empowering our own engineers, men and women, young and experienced, to lead the charge.
